The move was backed by 60 lawmakers, with three votes against and 23 abstentions.

The LEU and ASU will be reorganized and merged with the VDU from the next year.

Following the merger, the LEU, currently based in Vilnius, will become the VDU Education Academy in Kaunas, Lithuania’s second-largest city, and the ASU will become the VDU Agriculture Academy.

Under the government-approved plan for the reorganization of universities in Lithuania, the existing 14 universities will be reorganized into nine.
