During the visit, SNMCMG1 Commander Giedrius Premenckas of the Lithuanian Navy and commanders of other SNMCMG1 ships met with John Petter of Stavanger Municipality and Stavanger Port Captain Merete Eik.

Following the Stavanger visit, the SNMCMG1 will sail via the North Sea to the United Kingdom where it is scheduled to take part in the UK-organized international maritime training event Joint Warrior, Lithuania’s Ministry of National Defense said.

Since coming under the command of the commander of the Lithuanian Navy on Aug 6, the SNMCMG1 has already completed port visits to Riga (Latvia), Tallinn (Estonia), Turku (Finland), Klaipėda and Rostok (Germany).

The SNMCMG1 is a multinationally-formed maritime rapid response mine counter-measures unit providing NATO with a capability to ensure mine counter-measures in peacetime, war or armed conflict.

It ensures NATO is supported with standing maritime capabilities for exercises and actual operations. SNMCMG1 completes at-sea mine clearance operations, and attends multinational training events within NATO framework and with NATO partners in the waters of Northern Europe. It is also used for responding to crises, demonstrating the presence of the Alliance in the region and NATO solidarity, and for visiting seaports of NATO and partner countries.
