Around 450 soldiers and about 100 military vehicles, including Leopard 2 tanks and Marder armored vehicles, are to arrive in Lithuania between February1 and 10, it said.

The redeployment of the German troops via Lithuania’s roads will be handled by a Belgian logistics group that arrived in the country last week.

The German-led battalion, which is expected to reach its full operational capability by mid-June, will consist of over 1,000 troops from several NATO member states.

The Alliance last year decided station a multi-national battalion in each of the three Baltic countries and Poland in response to Russia’s intervention in Ukraine and military activity in the region.
