Plugged and mostly unplugged, loud and barely audible, some very talented and some trying very hard. There were young musicians, slightly older musicians, and sometimes entire families playing music together.
The annual street music festival started four years ago with the idea of having more musicians playing on the streets. Now, soloist, duos, trios, quartets and large ensembles were a delight for passers-by and casual onlookers alike.
Some musicians had visibly assembled a dedicated audience. Some were well organised, including with a QR code to provide more information about the band.
It may take some time for Vilnius to be the city of “love”, after “the Kiss” went viral on social media, but it clearly is a city of live music. The offer of opera, classical, jazz and popular music in the city is very good. That there will be a steady supply of good quality musicians was clearly heard on the streets of Vilnius on a sunny Saturday in May.
