Aidukas turned in his resignation to Supreme Court chairman Rimvydas Norkus on Friday, the court said.
According to the resignation request, Aidukas made the decision “due to mixed discussions” following the investigation opened on Feb. 23 into the work of Vilnius prosecutor Rita Aliukoniene. Aidukas was questioned as a special witness in the case.
The prosecutor was suspected of large-scale influence peddling, as prosecutors suspect she could have influenced the Supreme Court hearings of the Labor Party’s bookkeeping fraud case.
Until the dismissal issue has been decided, Aidukas will be suspended from hearing cases. He has gone on an unpaid leave.
The decision on dismissing a Supreme Court judge is to be made by the parliament and the president.
