“We have a lot of potential for developing bilateral economic cooperation. I am very grateful to the (Turkish) president, who decided today to visit Lithuania next year with a large delegation of businesspeople,” she said at a joint news conference on Monday.

The Lithuanian president also underlined the importance of cooperation between the two countries in the areas of education and tourism.

Grybauskaitė earlier in the day called for the development of bilateral trade with Turkey, saying that the container shuttle train service Viking, which links Asia with the Baltic Sea, and collaboration in the areas of innovation, IT, lasers, energy, health sciences and research were opening new prospects for business cooperation between the countries.

The Lithuanian president on Tuesday is to open a Lithuanian-Turkish business forum in Istanbul. A declaration on the establishment of a joint economic and trade commission is to be signed during her visit.
