
“This day marks an important step in the process of the regional energy sector’s integration. We congratulate Lithuania, Sweden, Poland and other partners for having implemented these key infrastructure projects,” the letter reads, also noting that Lithuania is a true leader and reliable partner that seeks energy security and diversification in Europe.
The US Secretary of State noted that the project represents a truly historic milestone in the Baltic States’ energy security that will pave the way for future energy projects and stronger integration both within the region and across the European Union.
On Monday, Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite, together with representatives from the Lithuanian, Latvian, Estonian, Polish, and Swedish governments, high-level European Commission officials, and the CEOs of relevant transmission system operators, participated in a symbolic ceremony launching the NordBalt electrical connection with Sweden and the LitPol Link connection with Poland.
Kerry also noted that the US is ready to cooperate with Lithuania, other countries in the region and the entire European Union for further reinforcement of energy security in Europe.
