Vilnius finished ahead of more traditional European holiday destinations such as Delphi (Greece), Tuscany (Italy), County Atrim (Northern Ireland), Crete (Greece), and Porto (Portugal).
Theculturetrip.com described Vilnius as Lithuania’s “exquisite medieval capital”, and pointed out the “majestic baroque old-town” of Senamiestis, Gediminas Tower, and the bohemian Republic of Užupis as areas of notable attraction.
Lithuania’s decision to adopt the euro as its official currency in January 2015 has seen a rise in tourism to the country, with Lonely Planet adding it to its ‘Top 10 Destinations To Visit in 2015’ list.
