World Lithuanians wish to vote at honorary consulates, CEC looking into possibilities

DELFI / Šarūnas Mažeika

Such a wish was expressed during a meeting of the Commission of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania and the Lithuanian World Community last week.

Laura Matjošaitytė, chair of the Central Electoral Commission, says she will look into possibilities to vote at honorary consulates with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“We’ll speak with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and look into possibilities to whether or not organize voting at honorary consulates. We see the wish of world Lithuanians for the number of voting places to be increased abroad”, she told BNS Lithuania.

Currently world Lithuanians can vote by post or at diplomatic representations and consular institutions in around 50 places across the world.

Around 16,500 Lithuanian citizens voted abroad during the Seimas election in the fall of 2016.
