
To January 1 this year, there were a total of 2,535 HIV infections diagnosed in Lithuania, most of the infected were men – 79.6% and with four times fewer women at 20.4%.
Almost a third, or 28% of those who had contracted the disease has been infected with HIV through drug injection (44 individuals).
The majority of people infected with HIV in Lithuania last year were in 30-34 age group.
Of the new cases, 12 patients were found already to be already in the late stage of HIV, or AIDS – comprising 7.6% of all new HIV cases.
