According to Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom, European countries must follow the sanction policy and continue the dialogue with Russia, no matter how hard it is.
“This is difficult because if we can say that sanctions are important they have worked, but so far we have not seen the necessary changes in Russia’s behavior. (…) Before we anything, we have to make sure that they honor their commitment,” the Swedish minister said during a press conference.
Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius echoed his Swedish counterpart’s opinion and said that the West must stick to its existing policy.
“We see the situation worsening. We see many more tragedies, we see many more things because terrorists continue to get support, their actions get support. We see the ongoing processes. Therefore, we must remain consistent, united and continue the existing policy, trying to influence the existing situation and making Russia to change its course,” Linkevičius said.
It’s Wallstrom’s first visit to Lithuania since she was appointed foreign minister in the fall of 2014.
Ukraine said on Friday that “Russian terrorist groups” had launched a mass new offensive.
