Record insurance for paintings by Čiurlionis to be exhibited in Krakow

Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, Andante (Sonata II), 1907

Starting on October 15 and scheduled to last until the end of this year, the exhibition is part of a cycle of events in Krakow to mark the 25th anniversary of the restoration of Lithuania’s independence.

“We rarely have such projects. But that’s an amount of EUR 15 million and the exhibition consists of around 100 works,” Kęstutis Šerpytis, head of Lietuvos Draudimas insurance company, told a press conference at the Lithuanian National Drama Theater in central Vilnius on Monday. “Of course, it’s not about the money as it’s a collection of unique artistic valuables.”

Osvaldas Daugelis, head of the M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art, noted that the works of this artist are the most expensive pieces of art in Lithuania.

The exhibition is now being prepared for transportation to Krakow.
