The minister did not comment on the outcome of his Friday’s meeting with EU’s competition commissioner Margrethe Vestager, saying that the government’s decision would be made by mid-December.

“It was an important meeting before deciding on what we should do about the fine imposed on Lithuania. We discussed various options about what we should do in this case. We will continue polishing our position and decision with Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai after going home, and we will present them to the government. As the issue is legal, we cannot comment on the details in this phase,” Masiulis told BNS in a telephone interview from Brussels.

He has said that the conversation with Vestager would be crucial in the ministry’s efforts to formulate proposals to the Cabinet. On Friday, the transport and communications minister said there would be no rush with the proposals, as the deadline was Dec. 18.

Masiulis has said that the EC fine could be taken to the European Court of Justice and the Renge railway tracks could be rebuilt, however, on Friday did not specify the government’s possible steps.
