“I am not going to take the initiative,” the minister, who is a member of the ruling Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union (LFGU), told the daily Lietuvos Rytas when asked about his ministry’s relocation to Lithuania’s second-biggest city.

When the paper reminded Markauskas that the idea was included in the LFGU-led government’s program, Markauskas said, “If there is a decision to move, I will not object. I have told Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis that I will comply with any decision by the Seimas and the government.”

The minister made it clear that President Dalia Grybauskaitė’s office is not enthusiastic about the government’s plans to move the ministries for agriculture and environment out of the capital either.
