On Friday and Saturday, the minister attended an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Milan, which focused on the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

“Russia is continuing its cynical policies of universal denial and, regardless of the diplomatic efforts, is sending its army to Ukraine. An open attack has been started against the people of Ukraine, and it must be stopped by joint efforts,” Linkevičius emphasized.

He noted that the international community should take a resolute stance to the Russian conduct, respond and help the people of Ukraine by providing them with the necessary humanitarian and financial assistance and support to the army. In Linkevičius’ words, it is also crucial to increase the pressure and retaliatory measures with regard to Russia, urging it to cease military actions in Ukraine and pull back its troops, fighters and munitions from the Ukrainian territory and the border region.

“We cannot waste time on fruitless discussions about terminology of the invasion, we should work together in preparation for possible unexpected things in the future. Russia has demonstrated disrespect to Ukraine and us. Unfortunately, we have not always been united even after the agreed joint position on sanctions or illogical military deals,” the Lithuanian minister concluded.
