Case of Russian spy in Lithuania handed over to regional court

The prosecutors have completed their pre-trial investigation which involves three persons in total, including a former captain of the Aviation Base identified by his initials S.P. and a Russian citizen identified as S.M.

The Russian and another Lithuanian citizen, identified as A.K., are also charged with illegal possession of a large quantity of ammunition and powerful explosives.

The investigation, launched in December 2014, has found that S.P. was recruited by Russia’s intelligence service back in 2012.

The former officer is charged with collecting information about operations of the Lithuanian army and NATO‘s air policing missions, as well as the NATO-led ISAF mission in Afghanistan, and passing it on to S.M. during secret meetings between 2012 and late 2014.

S.P. and S.M. were detained on Dec. 29, 2014. If convicted of spying, they face prison sentences of between three and 15 years.
