Entrepreneurs from China‘s Shenzhen city visited Vilnius University on Tuesday in search for new business opportunities in Lithuania.

The Chinese entrepreneurs discussed possible cooperation in science and technology with University Rector Professor Artūras Žukauskas.

The visit is part of China’s plan to create a New Silk Road which seeks to encourage cooperation at the economic, social and cultural levels between China and the Central and Eastern European countries.

General Secretary of the Shenzhen-Central and Eastern European countries economic and cultural association William Lu invited the rector of Vilnius University, Economy Evaldas Gustas and Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Šimašius to come to China for the Central and Eastern European countries‘ economic and cultural forum in the autumn.

The Vilnius University rector told the guests that the university already had experience of cooperating with Chinese businesses.

“We have the Huawei Academy operating in the Telecommunications Science Center. Students learn and work with the equipment donated by the company,” said Professor Žukauskas.

In implementing the program of the New Silk Road, the Chinese government initiated the One Belt. One Road strategy. Chinese provinces and cities look for individual businesses to develop joint projects, and to increase trade and invest in these countries.

The Shenzhen-Central and Eastern European countries’ economic and cultural cooperation promotion association was founded to support those efforts last year.
