Controversial former vice-minister Cytacka to run for vacant parliament seat

A vacancy in the Seimas opened after social democrat Vytenis Povilas Andriukaitis left to work in the European Commission.

Other parties are still looking for candidates, but already acknowledge that the competition in Vilnius Žirmūnai single-member constituency will be intense, the daily Lietuvos Žinios reports.

According to Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission (VRK) Zenonas Vaigauskas, the election in the district will be held together with municipal elections. 1 March next year has been proposed as the election day.

The leader of the LLRA, Valdemar Tomaševski, has confirmed to the daily Lietuvos ZŽinios that the party will nominate Renata Cytacka.

Cytacka ran in the capital’s Žirmūnai single-member constituency in the parliamentary elections two years ago. Then she finished fourth with 2,220 votes, whereas Andriukaitis won in the constituency with 5,024 votes.
