“I will not comment on the prime minister’s communication. I just want to say there’s a serious situation in our education system. Yes, it is. Therefore, we have to speak. A dialogue is needed between the government and trade unions to find solutions acceptable for both sides. We have to realize that the state’s financial capabilities are limited, therefore, both sides need to talk without demonstrating a force position. A dialogue and agreement are necessary,” Grybauskaitė said at the Vilnius Fair Book on Thursday.

Around a tenth of kindergarten and school teachers have been on strike since Monday.

During the meeting with the opposition political groups in the Seimas, PM Algirdas Butkevičius, speaking about the ongoing teachers’ strike, said that some Lithuanian trade unions were influenced by Russia.

Later on, the prime minister apologized to teachers’ trade unions, saying that he did not want to accuse anyone and that he was misunderstood.
