“I support the idea because Vilnius, as the capital of Lithuania, definitely needs a city museum that would tell Vilnius residents and guests about the city’s multinational and multicultural heritage, tell about the city’s history and become a cultural center,” said Ruokytė-Jonsson after discussing the idea with conservative MP Andrius Kubilius.
In her words, the museum should be founded by the Vilnius municipality, and the Culture Ministry is ready to contribute in the shape of expert assistance and consultations, the ministry said.
The idea has also been presented to Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Šimašius.
Šimašius told BNS last week that he saw a need for the museum, pledging to make efforts to found it in the city. In his words, using the Town Hall for the purpose is one of the possibilities.
