Environmental protection expenditure drops by nearly 40 percent in Lithuania

Investment in ambient air protection reached LTL 57.9 million (EUR 16.8 million) and, compared with 2012, decreased 21.7 percent. Investment in water resources protection was LTL 209.7 million (EUR 60.7 million) or 41.9 percent less. Meanwhile, investment in waste collection and management stood at LTL 25.1 million (EUR 7.3 million) or 48.8 percent less than a year before.

Investment by water collection, treatment and supply companies accounted for 69.7 percent, while by electricity, gas and steam supply, and air conditioning companies only for 9.8 percent of the total investment in environmental protection by industrial enterprises.

As regards manufacturing enterprises, producers of refined petroleum and food products invested in environmental protection most – LTL 35.4 million (EUR 10.2 million). This accounted for 56.4 percent of the total investment by the manufacturing industry in environmental protection.
