According to the diplomat, Brussels is waiting for additional information from Vilnius to be able to fully assess the extent of the problem.

“The Commission is aware of the problem and is currently expecting further information from the authorities of Lithuania to be able to assess its full extent. It is noted that in 2013 the FCS (The Federal Customs Service of Russia) applied 100 percent customs controls for Lithuanian carriers transporting goods to Russia for almost one month without clear justification,” Ušackas told BNS.

The Lithuanian State Border Guard Service said restrictions on Lithuanian vehicles on the Russian-Lithuanian border at Kaliningrad region were imposed on Friday night. Lithuanian carriers got also stuck on the Latvian-Russian border.

The Lithuanian national road carriers’ association LINAVA said on Tuesday it has information that the Russian customs issued a memo on Monday night, ordering prolonged full inspection of vehicles and cargo from Lithuania.
