First Lithuanian conscript joins professional military service in airforce

Linas Jakštas

He will join the Lithuanian Air Force Air Defense Battalion in Radviliškis.

“I have always thought that the job of a military officer is one of the most prestigious and appreciated. I did not hesitate and signed up for the first summons. A desire to understand how our parents felt when they had to serve in the Soviet army also encouraged me to become a soldier. In addition, I want to have something to tell the grandchildren and children when I am old,” said Jakštas.

Around 130 from the 500 conscripts that finished the first renewed nine-month long compulsory military service are planning to join the professional army.

The air defence battalion consists of three air defense and one surveillance radar unit with accompanying staff and supply batteries.
