Five Lithuanian tennis players compete in President’s Cup in Vilnius

Laurynas Grigelis, 23, who is No. 322 in the ATP rankings, will face Belorussian player Ivan Liutarevich, 1254th. The two played last October in Minsk, Belarus, when the Lithuanian won in straight sets 6:4, 6:3.

In the second round Grigelis will face Dutch player Tallon Greikspoor. The 19-year-old player, who is ranked at the 1031st spot in the world, won in a three-set match against another Lithuanian, 18-year-old Tadas Babelis, who is not ranked in the singles, with score 5:7, 6:4, 7:6.

Twenty-year-old Lukas Mugevičius (586th in the ATP rankings) will have a go against 21-year-old Russian Ronald Slobodchnikov. Despite the Russian being ranked well below him, 1051, he might do a lot of trouble for the Lithuanian. Slobodchnikov was ranked as the 757th player in the world a year ago and has some experience. Mugevičius is in a good shape and with a home crowd support hopes for a victory.

Dovydas Šakinis, 23 who mostly plays for his college in the USA, will face in the first round Australian player Harrison Lombe who advanced to the main draw from the qualifications.

The hardest job awaits 21-year-old Julius Tverijonas. The Lithuanian, who is ranked at the 1710th spot in the world, will first face 22-year-old Belarussian Yaraslau Shyla, (318th in the ATP world rankings).

The total prize fund in the tournament is USD 10,000. DELFI and the Lithuania Tribune will continue to update with the scores from the tournament.
