The bid was supported unanimously by all 14 members of the body.

Gapšys will lose his mandate on Monday, August 8.

Gapšys announced his decision to leave the parliament during the Labour Party’s council meeting last week.

His step comes in connection to a pre-trial investigation conducted by prosecutors who have turned to the parliament with a request to allow bringing him to justice, arrest or otherwise restrict his freedom.

Prosecutors had also asked the Central Electoral Commission to keep them up to date on Gapšys’ request to terminate his MP mandate.

Gapšys is suspected of taking a €25,000 bribe from Raimondas Kurlianskis, vice-president of one of Lithuania’s biggest business groups MG Baltic.
