Kaunas University of Technology and Lithuanian University of Health Sciences are to merge

Kaunas University of Technology

Petras Baršauskas, the rector of Kaunas University of Technology, has proposed that the two institutions, both based in Kaunas, could be merged by 2018.

According to preliminary plans, aimed at tackling low quality standards in Lithuania’s education system, universities would sign agreements with the state every three years, outlining development directions, student enrolment, research and needs of the labour market that education institutions should work to meet.

The working group led by the minister of education is to present recommendations on how to optimize the use of university resources by March 1, 2016.

Four Lithuanian universities – Vytautas Magnus University, Klaipėda University, Šiauliai University and the Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences – have already announced they are planning to form a cluster.
