The program of festivities was presented and discussed at the parliament’s board on Wednesday.

“We will hold a linkup of the Baltic Way, three oak pedestals will be erected at the Latvian border, they are already in production. Speakers of the Latvian and the Estonian parliaments will arrive […]. We also intend to invite the defense ministers from all three countries,” Lithuanian Parliamentary Speaker Loreta Graužinienė told BNS Wednesday.

Participants of the 1989 Baltic Way from various parts of Lithuania are also invited to the event.

The human chain will start at Cathedral Square in Vilnius. On the way to Saločiai, the Baltic Way linkup delegation will stop at Baltic Way memorial roadsigns.

On 23 August 1989, two million Lithuanians, Latvians and Estonians held hands to form a live chain from Vilnius to Helsinki to mark the 50th anniversary of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, which divided Europe and took away the independence of the three Baltic nations.
