“Lithuania does not have any territorial claims against any of its neighbors and it does not call into question the status of the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation,” Rasa Jakilaitienė, the foreign minister’s spokeswoman, told BNS.

“This region is an integral part of the Russian Federation. However, Lithuania will continue not to recognize any unilateral border changes, just as it does not recognize the occupation and annexation by Russia of Crimea,” she added.

The comment came after calls by Lithuanian MP Linas Balsys to review the status of the Kaliningrad region in response to the annexation of Crimea received much attention from the Russian media.

Balsys said during a conference in Vilnius on January 20 that “time has run out for Kaliningrad” and suggested that Lithuanian officials might raise this issue at the EU level.
