Lithuania joins call for EU visa-free travel for Georgia

Ministers of the interior and foreign affairs of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Romania have expressed hope that a decision on the matter will be made at the June 20 meeting of EU foreign ministers.

“The issue of visa-free travels for Georgia is stalled without a due reason,” Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius has said.

He has emphasized that Georgia has met all the terms and conditions prescribed by the European Commission in its efforts for visa-free travels, therefore, should not be given any new tasks.

Last December, the EC stated that both Georgia and Ukraine had satisfied all conditions for visa-free travels. EU diplomats should discuss the bid to grant visa-free travels for Ukraine on June 14.

Euro-integration of Georgia and Ukraine is strongly opposed by Moscow.
