The Baltic country is taking part in NATO‘s advisory mission in Afghanistan.

NATO is asking Lithuania to make a commitment by the upcoming NATO summit in July to allocate half a million US dollar a year in 2021–2024 to maintain Afghanistan’s national security forces.

Early this year, Lithuania made the decision to allocate such an amount in 2018–2020. Lithuania also allocated funds for Afghanistan’s forces earlier.

NATO is executing operation Resolute Support in Afghanistan since 2015.

The Seimas of Lithuania allows sending up to 50 Lithuanian troops to Afghanistan but their specific number remains unclear.
