Lithuania to crack down on illegal tour guides

DELFI / Valdas Kopūstas

Raids will be conducted in cities throughout Lithuania during which guides’ qualifications and licenses will be checked.

Foreign guides will have to provide documents authorising them to provide tours in Lithuania. According to the Tourism Department, these raids are being held to ensure that companies are competing fairly and that they have a responsible outlook on the tour guide profession.

Last year, almost 70 guides were checked during similar raids, and 6 cases were opened. Illel tour guide activities can lead to fines.

In order to host tours, guides must have completed higher education and must complete a special guide course and exam.
