The leaders of two governments also discussed bilateral political and diplomatic relations at their meeting on Monday, the Lithuanian government said in a press release.

“Lithuania wants to enhance cooperation with this country; we want to take a closer look at the situation. I’m certain that our dialogue will help ensure regular contacts between Lithuanian and Palestinian diplomats and we expect your representatives to pay a visit to our country,” the press release quoted Butkevičius as saying.

Lithuania’s companies representing food, furniture, chemical and other industrial sectors were interested in exports to Palestine, he added.

According to the government, Butkevičius is the first Lithuanian prime minister to pay an official visit to Palestine.
