“We are discussing and looking at how to solve this problem. We also plan to turn to the European Commission. I have heard today that the association Linava has already done so. That should happen on 3 December,” he told reporters after a Cabinet meeting.
Algimantas Kondrusevičius, president of the national road carriers association Linava, said that they have already informed the EU’s executive body about the situation at the border with Russia.
“We have informed the European Commission about the restrictions. The Commission helped when such restrictions were in place a year ago,” Kondrusevičius told BNS.
The association expects the Commission to speak with Russia about lifting the restrictions, he said.
The association’s president said that estimates of losses incurred due to delays since the end of last week are not yet available.
“One idle day costs 200-300 euros per truck. Some 8,500 trucks carry goods to Russia. Certainly, we transport goods to Belarus as well. Different companies have different costs,” he said.
Russia began to restrict the entry of cars and trucks from Lithuania into its territory at the end of last week.
