The additional screening practice is envisaged in regulations of the European Union (EU), therefore, the procedures are applied in all EU airports, Vilnius International Airport said.

After a special device takes microscopic samples from various parts of a person’s body, the samples are analysed within a few seconds to establish whether the person’s skin was lately in contact with certain banned chemical substances.

According to the press release, the device does not emit radiation and does not affect skin. Passengers for the scrutiny are selected randomly by computer software.
