The Lithuanian cabinet of ministers is to decide whether to call off a controversial decree on zoning requirements in resort areas.
The decree, which was adopted by the government last September, lifted construction restrictions in resort zones. It raised suspicions of untoward influence by a Druskininkai politician.
Prosecutors investigated whether Druskininkai Mayor Ričardas Malinauskas, who allegedly had a personal stake in the decision, exerted pressure to have the decree passed.
Although the investigation has been dropped, the prosecutors released transcripts of phone conversation between Malinauskas and members of the government.
The prime minister’s spokeswoman has told LRT that even if the decree is called off, it does not mean that construction restrictions would come back.
