Lithuanian Chamber of Agriculture warns about GMO crops

Last week, the European Parliament approved of the European Commission’s proposal which provides for member-states making decision whether to allow growing GMO in their territories on their own.

According to Stančikas, this decision only shows that the EU is ready to sacrifice its high agriculture and food safety standards for the sake of economic reasons and free trade agreement with US.

Head of the Chamber of Agriculture said that he did not want to be a prophet of doom but GMO crops could appear in Lithuania as early as in one or two years from now.
