Lithuanian court to pronounce verdict for Russian FSB spying suspect

Lithuanian prosecutors believe the suspect is an officer of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) who aimed to recruit officers of the VIP Protection Department to plant bugs in the office and residence of Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė.

Filipchenko was detained in April of 2015, prosecutors want him in prison for 10.5 years.

The suspect pleads not guilty and refused to testify to the Vilnius court, saying that he had done no harm to Lithuania.

In addition to the recruitment charges, Filipchenko is charged with document forgery, use of forged documents and multiple counts of the unlawful crossing of the Lithuanian border.
