Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius said he had heard received a pledge from European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker that the EC would grant millions in additional supports to Lithuanian dairy producers.
Butkevicius said the Commission chief had pledged to grant an additional €13.3 million in funding to LIthuanian farmers and dairy producers.
“We spoke with the Comission president today and agreed that the Lithuanian dairy sector is currently in need of extra support. I am grateful for the constructive cooperation with the goal of helping Lithuanian dairy producers through the difficult time,” Butkevicius said in Mongolia for the Europe-Asia Summit.
Lithuanian dairy producers have been hit by losses of around €76 million due to sharp declines in milk prices globally and the Russian embargo.
