According to the Lietuvos Rytas daily, the Social Democrats have decided to recover positions lost in major cities by throwing their heavy weaponry, and Linkevičius is among potential candidates.

“One cannot discount such a possibility and it’s all possible. There are various considerations. When will I decide? I don’t know. I am not in a hurry,” Linkevičius told the daily.

The minister was born and raised in Kaunas and launched his political career here.

The daily believes Linkevičius has already made some steps towards a Seimas elections campaign. He has recently met with visiting outgoing Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski and also spoke with local politicians about closer cooperation between his ministry and the city as well as other issues.

Kaunas has long been considered a tough city for leftist parties as it has been long deemed the stronghold of the opposition conservative Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats
