Lithuanian haulers see planned quotas for foreign workers as threat to business

“The quotas may sharply limit the number of workers hired by transport companies as a matter of urgency,” Linava President Erlandas Mikėnas told BNS on Wednesday.

“The road transport sector is very dynamic, requiring very rapid adaptation of market participants to changing market conditions,” he said.

Amid a rapid increase in immigration from Ukraine, the Lithuanian government decided earlier in the day introduce quotas on third-country workers in certain professions, including drivers.

The Linava president said that an acute shortage of truck drivers in Lithuania forces haulage companies to hire foreigners.
