The roadshow saw participation by more than 30 business executives from leading Lithuanian companies, covering a wide range of sectors. Investors Forum of Lithuania, Baltic Institute of Corporate Governance, the Lithuanian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association and officials of the local Foreign Office also attended the meeting. The seminar was inaugurated by Vice President and Director General of Confederation of Industrialists of Lithuania, Dr. Gediminas Rainys.
In a detailed presentation at the seminar, Ambassador Ajay Bisaria highlighted the favourable constellation of factors available in India for manufacturing companies, including a vast pool of skilled manpower, low labour costs and innovative new policies and initiatives introduced by the Government of India to expand manufacturing under the ‘Make-in-India’ campaign. Ambassador invited Lithuanian companies as partners in India’s new economic growth story, as India gears up for a phase of active and focused engagement with Central Europe. Honorary Consul Chaudhary also addressed the event and underscored the investment opportunities available in India. He offered the services of India’s Honorary Consulate to facilitate business.
Highlighting India’s participation as a partner country in the Hannover Messe, Ambassador Bisaria said that the joint inauguration of the event by India’s Prime Minister with Germany’s Chancellor signals India’s intention to engage strongly with companies in the EU.
The business seminar was followed by a robust Q&A session. Responding to queries from Lithuanian businessmen relating to India’s new flagship programmes like “Smart Cities” and “Digital India”, Ambassador emphasized that the Lithuanian companies interested in doing business in India need not be intimidated by the vast size of the Indian economy or the regulatory systems as business is eventually done between similar companies. Besides, the business environment is rapidly improving in India at the level of cities and states. Ambassador added that the Embassy of India in Warsaw and the Honorary Consulate of India in Vilnius will be happy to facilitate trade and investment, and particularly business forays of interested investors from Lithuania into India.
