Lithuanian-owned Maxima largest employer in Latvia

State owned joint-stock railroad company Latvijas Dzelzcels employed the second largest number of persons – 7,173, followed by the supermarket chain Rimi Latvia – 5,731 persons.

In fourth place is Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital – 5,226 persons, followed by the national postal company Latvijas Pasts – 4,403 persons.

There were a total of 12 companies in Latvia which employed over 2,000 persons last year, and 22 companies which employed between 1,000 and 2,000 persons.

As reported, fuel traders Statoil Fuel&Retail Latvia, Orlen Latvija Ltd. and Neste Latvija were the largest taxpayers in Latvia last year.

Statoil Fuel&Retail Latvia paid EUR 198.2 million in taxes last year, Orlen Latvija Ltd. – EUR 144.3 million, but Neste Latvija Ltd. – EUR 134.6 million.

The State Revenue Service collected taxes from a total of 86,265 companies operating in Latvia last year.

LETA also reported, the total state budget tax revenue amounted to EUR 5.29 billion last year.

Salary tax revenue reached EUR 2.51 billion, other tax revenues – EUR 2.78 billion.

Mandatory state social insurance contributions amounted to EUR 1.58 billion, personal income tax – EUR 933.47 million.

Limited liability companies were the most active taxpayers in 2014, contributing EUR 4.26 billion to the state budget, followed by joint stock companies – EUR 1.03 billion, and individual merchants – EUR 8.99 million.
