Lithuanian PM, ex-PM to be awarded on Restoration of State Day

Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius of the Social Democrats, his predecessor, opposition leader Andrius Kubilius, and Foreign Minister Linas Linkevięius received the Grand Cross of Commander of the Order of Vytautas the Great for successful implementation of strategic state projects.

The Grand Cross of Commander of the Order for Merits to Lithuania went to former ambassador to Ukraine, Petras Vaitiekūnas, who has just completed his diplomatic career. He was awarded as active supporter of European values in Ukraine and bilateral Lithuanian-Ukrainian ties.

At the ceremony at the President’s Office on Monday, Crosses of Officer of the Order of Vytautas the Great were conferred upon incumbent and former energy ministers, Rokas Masiulis and Arvydas Sekmokas, Finance Minister Rimantas Šadžius, ex-minister Ingrida Šimonytė and central Bank of Lithuania governor Vitas Vasiliauskas.

On Monday, Lithuania celebrates the Day of Restoration of State. On Feb. 16, 1918, the Council of Lithuania proclaimed the restoration of the independent state of Lithuania, founded on democratic principles, with Vilnius as its capital.
