It will grant honorary citizenship to the country’s former president Valdas Adamkus and hold a number of other events to mark the occasion.
Starting on Friday, the festivities will include more than 40 events, the Šiauliai municipality said.
Šiauliai was first mentioned in the chronicles of the Livonian Order in 1236. By comparison, Lithuania’s capital Vilnius dates back to almost a century later, 1323.
