“We are launching on January 1 an electronic correspondence delivery system that will be mandatory to use for all state institutions. Private individuals will be able to use it if they will wish to,” Transport Minister Rimantas Sinkevičius said during the Cabinet’s meeting on Wednesday.

The operator of the system will be selected through a competitive process.

The Cabinet on Wednesday approved the main provisions of a national electronic correspondence delivery information system.

Ričardas Šlapšys, an aide to the transport minister, told BNS that the system will allow public institutions to stop sending paper correspondence via Lietuvos Paštas (Lithuanian Post). All documents will be sent electronically.

The system has been developed by Nortal, one of the largest software development companies in the Baltics, for 1.3 million euros.
