The changeover ceremony is scheduled for Monday in the western port of Klaipėda.
Macijauskas led Lithuanian Navy in 1999-2008 and 2010-2015.
“Macijauskas has served Lithuania well and we are grateful for the development and preparedness of then naval force, but time has come as he has already exceed his term, and we are used to rotating military officers,” Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas told BNS on Friday.
In his words, Macijauskas’ replacement has nothing to do with the controversial search and rescue operation in May for a plane that crashed flying over the Baltic Sea en route from Sweden to Lithuania.
“No, it has nothing to do with that,” the minister said.
Mockus, 46, has so far served as chief of staff of the Lithuanian Navy.
