NATO fighter-jets in Baltic states enjoy calm Christmas week

All in all, NATO fighter-jets were scrambled about 150 times in 2014 to escort Russian military airplanes, which indicates a threefold increase from last year.

NATO fighter-jets guarding the Baltic skies are deployed in Lithuania, Estonia and Poland.

In early January of 2015, the mission in Šiauliai, northern Lithuania, will be taken over by Italy and Poland, which will replace Portuguese and Canadian aviators.
