NATO fighter jets scrambled from Lithuania over two Russian planes

The Su-27 fighter-jet and An-12 transport airplane were flying in international airspace above the Baltic Sea, the Defence Ministry confirmed to BNS on Wednesday. Both of them had pre-filed flight plans, maintained contact with flight controllers, the An-12 had its automatic transponder on, while Su-27 had its off.

The NATO air policing mission to guard the Baltic skies is conducted from aviation bases in Šiauliai, northern Lithuania, and Amari, Estonia. Four German Eurofighter Typhoon are stationed in the Estonian base.
