On Jan. 25, NATO fighters were scrambled to intercept one SU-34 of the Russian Federation on its way from mainland Russia to the Kaliningrad region. The crew did not have a pre-filed flight plan, did not use onboard transponder and did not maintain radio contact with the regional air traffic control center, the Lithuanian Defense Ministry said.

The NATO air-policing mission is conducted from Lithuania and Estonia.
