New ship to be built for Lithuanian border guards

The patrol ship should be constructed and handed over to the State Border Guard Service by the end of June of 2015 by an Estonian company, Baltic Workboats, that won the tender. The value of the contract is 11.71 million litas (EUR 3.4m), the State Border Guard Service said.

The ship under construction will feature the latest navigation and communication equipment, two radars and other modern equipment. An additional infrared night-vision system will allow patrolling the state border and rescue operations in the dark.

Currently, the Coast Guard of the State Border Guard Service have a ship Kihu and high-speed patrol boats Boomeranger. In the Curonian Lagoon, the Coast Guard uses hovercrafts Christina and Viesulas, as well as a patrol ship Madeleine.
